Our Story …
We're doing another rally! But things are a little different this time...
Mase and I have already done two rallies with Shitbox Rally. Combined, we raised over $10,000 since 2021. We've seen some epic parts of Australia I never expected to visit but the rallies are a lot of work so we intended to take a little hiatus for a few years until a really cool route came out.
And then of course, such is life - after spending five years raising money for Cancer Council, I suddenly found myself in need of those same research funds. In June 2024, I was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. After two success brain surgeries, seven weeks of radiation, I have twelve months of chemo ahead of me.
This winter route (Perth to Darwin) was announced shortly after my diagnosis. Mase actually applied for us on the day of my second craniotomy knowing it was the route I was waiting for! And of course, now more than ever, raising funds for cancer research was a new priority for us.
It's an interesting feeling to know that the funds we raise will actually go to research that can save my life so here's hoping they put a decent chunk aside specifically for brain cancer!!
By the time this rally rolls around, I will still be doing my chemotherapy. A long slog ahead for me and countless others so let's raise as much as we can and figure how to fuck cancer
Here's what I'm doing …
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
