We’re thrilled to announce that we’re taking part in Shitbox Rally 2025 Winter! This year, all teams will be driving their “shitboxes” from Perth to Darwin, all in the name of cancer research.
Cancer research has played a life-changing role in my own journey. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2018 at age 43. Six months into my 18-month treatment cycle, results from a new targeted chemotherapy trial were published. In the world of oncology, a 4% increase in survival rates is a big deal—but this trial showed an 11% improvement. That’s what’s known as a "Monday morning change"—it was that significant. My treatment plan was immediately updated, giving me not only a better chance of survival but also fewer side effects, leading to a better quality of life.
Since then, I’ve completed 12 weeks of intense chemo, 10 surgeries, 18 months of targeted chemo, and ongoing daily anti-cancer medication (again, thanks to research!).
Today, my scans show no evidence of disease, and I’ve surpassed my five-year survival milestone. I’ve also completed five half marathons and plan to run two or three more this year!
Shitbox Rally is Australia’s largest community-led fundraiser for the Cancer Council, now in its 13th year. Every team must raise a minimum of $5,000, but collectively, we’re aiming for over $2.5 million in the 2025 Winter rally alone.
This is where you come in. The fundraising is the hardest part, and every dollar makes a difference. Your support helps fund life-saving cancer research—research that changed my life and could change countless others. If you’d like to donate, follow our journey, or just cheer us on, we’d love your support.
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for helping us drive change—one shitbox at a time! 🚗💨
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
